Welcome to The Place of Reflection Website
The purpose of the Place of Reflection in Kings Park and Botanic Garden is to provide a location where all people who have suffered loss can seek understanding, peace, healing, hope and renewal.
The Place of Reflection recognises the extent of loss and grief experienced by so many in our community, each form of loss bringing its own pain, and for some that loss is especially poignant and challenging, for example:
- The immeasurable continuous pain and sorrow following the death of a child.
- For missing persons, the heavy burden of not knowing what has happened to a loved one with no opportunity for ceremony or closure – or even goodbye.
- The trauma of those who come here as refugees, leaving behind loved ones.
- The grief of Aboriginal communities, especially those hurt by the loss of traditional healing places.
- The intent is to create a public reflective space of significance for the people of Western Australia which is universally accessible and recognises the needs of a multi-cultural community.
Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority Site Approval
At their December 2009 Board Meeting the Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority (BGPA) gave firm approval for the Place of Reflection to be built on the Kings Park escarpment adjacent to the Roe memorial.
This is a magnificent location for the Place of Reflection, providing the perfect setting amidst the beautiful flora and fauna of Kings Park for peace, reflection and healing with glimpses through the trees to the Swan River, the city and the hills beyond.
The approval is an exciting step forward for our project which has been under consideration for nearly 6 years. The realization of this dream is now well in sight and it is hoped an opening ceremony will take place before the end of 2010.
Funding and preliminary design work is well under way for this unique facility for those wanting to experience a sense of comfort, solace and peace amongst the natural beauty of our iconic ‘Peoples Park’. This tranquil setting will become a haven for those seeking a place to reflect either alone or with others and to also offer a place of celebration for the lives of those now not with their families.

“I am excited and honoured to be a patron for this project to provide a Place of Reflection in our beautiful botanic garden in Kings Park.
The Place of Reflection brings together groups representing those who have and will suffer the loss of a loved one to create a place of peace and healing for the whole community.
I commend this project to you and ask that you support it to the extent you are able.”
